We are pleased to invite you to a forthcoming symposium on Fish Mating Systems. In 2026, it will be the 60th anniversary of the publication of Modes of Reproduction in Fishes by Charles Breder and Donn Rosen. This monumental treatise, describing the astonishing range of fish reproductive styles, has proven an invaluable resource for researchers on fish mating systems, though without providing a coherent framework for understanding the adaptive basis to this extraordinary diversity.

Our goal in convening this symposium is to create a platform for researchers to explore genetic, physiological, behavioral, ecological, evolutionary, and applied perspectives on fish mating systems, thereby furthering our understanding of fish mating system evolution.

We are delighted to announce the participation of three outstanding plenary speakers: Suzanne Alonzo, John Fitzpatrick, and Suzanna Pla. These distinguished researchers will provide novel perspectives for discussion and stimulating further research questions.

The symposium will take place in Brno (Czech Republic), a conveniently located university town that is a 2-hour journey from Vienna Airport and well-connected to numerous international destinations. The meeting will be held on the Masaryk University campus, close to the Augustinian abbey, where Gregor Mendel conducted his ground-breaking genetic research. We anticipate 80-120 participants. The symposium will have no parallel sessions to foster a friendly atmosphere and discussion.

We are considering publishing a dedicated issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Given the timeline for editorial processing, please let us know if you are interested in contributing to this volume.
